The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, a national teachers’ sorority, and the Moolah Shrine Temple #54 will hold their Annual Saturday “Prep for Success Workshops” at the Shrine Temple located at 15 East Mallory (Florida & Mallory or 3rd St. and Mallory) on Saturdays, January 21, 28, and February 4. These three sessions are free, and a free lunch will also be served at each session to the participating students ( grades 9-12).
Voter Photo ID-It’s the law

If you are a registered voter and do not have a government-issued photo ID, the Department of Safety and Homeland Security will provide you with a photo ID at no charge. Citizens may obtain these IDs at the Driver Service Center in your county. The driver service centers in Shelby County will be open the first Saturday of each month in January and February from 8:30 a.m.-5:00p.m. for voter photo IDs only. No other business will be conducted during these special hours of service.

To minimize wait times, groups or organizations planning to bring several people to the centers for photo ID are encouraged to make appointments by calling Hattie Perkins at 901-543-6519.
Under the new voter ID law, in order to get a photo ID for voting purposes, voters must show the following documentation to a Driver Service Center examiner:
• Proof of citizenship (such as birth certificate), and
• Two proofs of Tennessee residency (such as a copy of a utility bill, vehicle registration, or bank statement)

A theatrical musical revue featuring humorous songs by “Fats” Waller that serves as a tribute to the black musicians of the 1920’s and 30’s who were part of the Harlem Renaissance. It was a time when Manhattan’s Cotton Club and the jumpin’ Savoy Ballroom were the playgrounds of high society and rowdy songs encapsulated the era.

Talent Hunt Competition hosted
by the Epsilon Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. This year’s competition is scheduled for
Feb. 18, 2012, 3pm at The LeMoyne-Owen College Theater (807 Walker Avenue, Memphis, TN.
38126). This Annual competition provides exposure, encouragement and financial assistance to
talented young people in grades 9-12 who are active in the performing arts. Winners of the
competition are awarded book scholarships, recognition for their talents, and an opportunity to
compete on the District and National level.
Students may perform one of the following talents in this competition:
1. Music: Vocal and instrumental; classical, semi-classical, gospel and jazz.
2. Interpretive Movement to Music: ballet, modern dance and tap.
3. Speech: Poetry, orations, monologues, etc.
4. Art: Visual, sculptures and photography.
